Charlie and The Chocolate Factory Afternoon Tea at One Aldwych

One Aldwych is a luxury hotel found near Covent Garden which is running a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory themed afternoon tea in conjunction with the musical.

For an afternoon out me and my mum decided to give it a try. As a big afternoon tea fan it sounded right up my street. With cute hand-drawn menus and a selection of tasty sandwiches, ranging from smoked salmon and herb crème fraîche to a less traditional heritage tomato tart. It was all presented on brilliant white china and tasted delicious!

Of course the stars of the show at Afternoon Teas are usually the desserts, and these didn’t disappoint.

For the special desserts we had chocolate caramel milk and homemade candy floss with a mystery flavour. Chocolate eggs filled with vanilla cheesecake, lime and coconut cake pops and a sort of eton mess concoction. All topped up with a selection of scones with accompanying summer berry jam, apple and meadowsweet compote and devonshire clotted cream. Not forgetting cocoa bean financiers with a side of blueberry brioche! Phew!

Everything was super tasty. Me and Mum had a lot of fun trying to figure out the taste of the candy floss!  We did go last year however, and I believe the menu has slightly changed since, however most of the items still remain.

I would wholeheartedly recommend this afternoon tea. There were a range of speciality teas on offer. You could even upgrade and get a “cocktail Charlie” for a little bit more money. It came to £37.50pp without alcohol, which is fairly competitive based on other afternoon tea prices in the capital. Two thumbs up!
