Finding The Right Products For Your Sensitive Skin

I’ve had sensitive skin since I was a teen. As a general rule of thumb I can usually get away with using slightly “harsher” products on my body, but never on my face. I remember using a Lush bath bomb once and accidentally getting some of the water on my face. After I stepped out of the bath and looked in the mirror I saw the blotchy mess that was reflection – my sensitive skin did not agree with what was in the bath bomb!

Ever since then whenever I buy skin or body products I always stick to brands that are specifically made for those with sensitive or problem skins. When HelloSkin got in touch with me and asked if i’d like to try out some of their products I was intrigued. I had a little look around their site and saw that they categorised their products by skin concern. Think Eczema, acne and so on. I was specifically looking for products tailored for sensitive skin. Once I’d selected the products I wanted to try the package was winging its way to me and arrived promptly within a matter of days.

Avène Thermal Spring Water Spray – £9.99

The first product I was keen to try out was the thermal spring water spray by Avène. This product has a bit of a cult following. It’s primary purpose is to soothe sensitive or irritated skin. With the pH in the water being almost neutral it leaves a soothing barrier on top of your skin.

It’s so handy to pop into a handbag and use if you’re feeling a bit hot and bothered. Or to add into your usual skincare routine. I have taken to spraying it onto my face after a shower as it sometimes becomes a bit inflamed. It makes my skin feel really nice and immediately combats any irritation.

Aquaphor Soothing Skin Balm – £7.49

I also opted for the Aquaphor soothing skin balm. It’s an extremely thick balm, so you only need the smallest amount. It’s usage is meant for severely dry or cracked skin and aims to regenerate and soothe. I chose this product as sometimes my elbows become very sore and dry. Now every couple of nights I will dab a small blob of the Aquaphor skin balm on them and I have found it really helps to keep the dry skin at bay.

Aveeno Body Wash for dry and sensitive skin – £8.99

I decided to check out this Aveeno body wash as I wanted to try out a new shower product that was specifically tailored to sensitive skin. This product contains oat essence and it smells really lovely – maybe its the oats?! The formula is soap free, and it lathers very nicely. If I am shaving I will use it as a pre-shave moisturiser and my skin always feels soft and comfortable after use! Plus for £8.99 you get a ton of product! 5OOml will last me for ages.

All 3 of these products have been great additions to my sensitive skincare regime. My favourite of all is probably the Avène spray though. Given the hot weather we have been having lately it’s an absolute godsend when you step off a sweaty tube and need some skin refreshment. My boyfriend has even given it the thumbs up and often asks me if I can spritz him with it on a regular occasion!
